This writ petition has been filed with a limited prayer for conducting the elections of the Haripur VEC Part-I under Selsalla Block, West Garo Hills District within a reasonable period of time.

Hazarika, learned GA for the State respondents has drawn attention to this Court to affidavit filed by the respondent No.

3, where at Para-4 it has been stated as follows: “4.

That after the expiry of the terms of the Haripur Part-I Village Employment Council and due to the aforesaid reasons and circumstances, the interim body was allowed to taken up and to implement the allotted Schemes/Projects which is about to be completed, and moreover, after taking into consideration of the grievances and financial hardships faced by the Job Card Holders of the said VEC, and thereby, the interim body was formed otherwise, the livelihood of the Job card Holders would be at stake, however, the Deponent further assure the Hon’ble High Court that the Fresh Election of Haripur Part I Village Employment Council will be conducted as early as possible.” 3.

In view of the statement made in the affidavit as given hereinabove, this matter is closed with a direction that on the undertaking of the respondent No.

3, the elections for the VEC shall be held within 2(two) months from the date of receipt of this order.

Matter accordingly stands disposed of.
